Book of Dead is probably the most successful clone out there as it reminds very much to the evergreen Book of Ra. The basic game is pretty much classic, with 20 lines to play plus the usual card values and then the special Egyptian symbols. There are no stacked symbols on the reels, so you can not collect a full screen of one type in the regular game.
What you need is to get into the Bonus round by collecting three or more books anywhere on the screen. Once the Bonus starts up, the most important spin happens – choosing the symbol that can expand to the entire reel during the free games, if they make the winning combination. Obviously, the higher value of that symbol, the better. So for the biggest possible win, you are hoping for the most valuable symbol – that of Rich Wilde, the guy that reminds of Indiana Jones on any of this type of game. In this video I got two bonuses in a short time, and the second one got Rich as the main symbol.
Unfortunately, when I had Rich as the chosen symbol, it did not happen even once to have the expanding reels with him. So, that happens too. With the lower value symbol, I did collect a few spins with nice stacks, although not a full screen. Fullscreen is the goal, that is when all 20 lines kick in for the win.
The bonus round starts with 10 free spins, but you can win more during it.
Also, important feature is that reels with expanded symbols do not need to be next to each other to form combinations.
I think the simplicity of the bonus is the main reason for the popularity of this game, in addition to hypnotic music and visuals. It is easy to see the chosen symbol stopping somewhere on the reel. Then, if you collect one on each reel and then they start expanding, that’s where the party starts. Like in this video where Knossi collected two times a full screen of Kings.
I need to see that with all the Rich Wild symbols, the win potential is huuuge.
