Regular game:

Archer is, by now, a bit outdated game from Playtech. However, it seems it is still big in Malaysia, just like some other classic games like Big Blue. Hence, it is here.

It is set on 5×3 grid and it plays all 243 ways, which was quite innovative at the time, possibly first Playtech game to do so. Graphics and sounds are outdated, still better than the other oldies like Great Blue or Lucky Lady’s Charm. There are wilds in play, but no multipliers or stacked symbols. So you will need to rely on good old collecting of symbols, the more the better. Here is 5 of a kind, albeit only Jacks.

Features:

Well, there is a special feature that is not so common. Some of the symbols have the arrow border around them. Now, if you get a winning combination and at the same time there is a Scatter symbol (two crossed arrows) on the playfield, the following happens. The symbols on the same reel with the symbol with arrow border will split into two by an arrow shot and convert one half to the same symbol with arrow border. That will give you more of the symbols you needed and will increase your win because you have more combinations now. Kind of expanding to the entire reel. It is a bit complicated, here is how it works in this video.

Surely, that was very innovative when the game first came out.

Bonus:

When you collect 3 Scatters, you start the 7 free spins. Free spins are literary free spins. No expanding or sticky wilds, collecting of any sorts or anything similar. Well actually, in the free games, you will not need the scatter two arrow symbol to help with splitting around the arrow border symbols. Check it in the bonus video.

Also, free games can be retriggered indefinitely.

Verdict:

I guess Archer was quite innovative when it first came out. Feature with the splitting symbols is an interesting one, and it very much reminds of the Book of Ra expanding symbols, only it can happen in the regular spins as well.

As I said, it looks like it’s still big in Malaysia, here is the video from Mr. Gamers responsible for the most views in recent time. Not a bad win either.
