Regular game:

Here is the Chinese themed slot from iSoftBet. Actually, Chinese themes dominate the brick and mortar Casinos in some regions, mostly thanks to Scientific Games’ Dancing Drums, 88 Fortunes and so on. This game really reminds of those games, and I would guess it is trying to replicate the success in online environment especially since SG does not really excel here. Game is set on 6 reels that hold from 3 to 6 positions which results in maximum possible 46,656 combinations in the Megaways style. Graphics and sounds are decent and complementary to the Chinese theme, however, I had a feeling gameplay is on the slower side compared to other recent releases. Declared RTP is 96,03%, while the Top Award is at around 10,000 the bet.

Features:

Above each reel there are Fortune Pots that receive coins when any Wild lands on the playfield. Adding coins has nothing to do with anything else except being a potential trigger. Pots actually pop randomly and then add a multiplier, up to 5x, to the current cascade. If the middle pot gets triggered, that starts the Fu Babies bonus feature. That is exactly the same as in the already mentioned Dancing Drums or 88 Fortunes themes, you get to pick from 12 symbols until you match 3. That determines which of the Jackpots is awarded – Mini, Minor, Major and Grand. This type of bonus is one of the reasons for success of land based slots, but do not make a mistake assuming you had exactly the same chances to win each of the Jackpots just because there are 12 symbols in play which corresponds to 3 symbols times 4 types of Jackpots.

Bonus:

Anyway, Fu Babies bonus comes out quite frequently, as if the emphasis (and mathematics) of the game is on that. The other, usual free spins bonus, starts when at least 4 Jade Scatters are collected. By default, 8 free spins are awarded for 4 Scatters, 10 for 5 and maximum 15 for 6 Scatters. For this bonus, all low paying symbols are removed so possibility of landing something nice increases significantly. Fortune Pots multiply wins just as in the regular game. Every now and then, the wise Chinese guy shows up in the middle of the screen during the free play, but it is not explained what he does. So that remains a mystery.

Verdict:

Fu Fortunes Megaways is a good game that brings in some features that are very popular with real life Casino players. However, I have a feeling that emphasis on Fu Babies bonus slows down the game and also makes it boring after a while. I mean, after how many times of picking the three symbols do you get tired of mostly getting the Mini and Major in what appears to be the same odds game?

So, although it is executed nicely, it is not as exciting as some other recent releases. That being said, I am sure there will be fans of the game that really like the Chinese ambiance.
