Regular game:

Darkwoods is cascading reels type of slot published by CT Gaming. It is set on 5 by 3 grid with 30 pay lines. Graphics are quite good and I even think that Gru character from Guardians of the Galaxy might have been inspired by one of them, or vice versa. Sounds are as expected from the game adapted from real life to online. Due to that transition, it will certainly already have established players base that have the familiarity with the theme. It is medium volatility type of game, meaning it will give you a good play time waiting for a nice medium sized win. Game pace is good and fast, although I wish time between spins is shorter. However, that is because of one of the game’s unique points, on that later.

Features:

Game uses Scatter symbols and Wilds on reel 2,3 and 4 that substitute for any symbol. A welcome feature is that Wilds in the form of unicorn symbol do come in stacked formation so you can get a lot of them at the same time. Plus they do come every so often, given game’s medium volatility, as you can see in this video. As is usual with cascading reels slots, any symbol that makes the winning combination will disappear after paying, making space for new symbols to drop on the grid. Any subsequent drop counts as the original spin so it will only add to the potential win without wagering again.

Double up:

After every spin, there is an option to double up or even go for quadrupling of the win. Quadrupling option is signature feature of CT Gaming as I have not come across the option anywhere else so far. You should double up as often as possible. That is because this is the only bet in any of the Casino games, apart from the odds bet on Dice live table game, which offers true odds. Meaning, RTP is 100%, there is no house advantage at all built in the feature. Now, it is very likely that because of true odds, double up is limited to a certain amount, which is a pity. But, when possible, I highly suggest to go for it and double up or even go for quadrupling by guessing the card suite.

Verdict:

Darkwoods is a good game that offers nice playing time and lots of fun with cascading reels style of play. If you are a hard betting gambler looking for a life changing jackpot, this will not be the kind of game for you. But, 5 of a kind wins come quite often and if you are happy spending good amount of time playing core slot games with nice, and often, chances to end up nicely ahead for the day, this is a good choice.
